Design strategies for materials with spin crossover [SCO]

Abstract
The study of the Spin crossover (SCO) materials began in the early 1930’s. After eight decades, differentresearch groups developed strategies for the synthesis of SCO materials. Recently Gütlich hasproposed a few rules as requirement for designing SCO materials. In this paper we present a briefdescription of the main strategies, their relation to Gütlich’s rules and their respective validation accordingto Crystal-field theory and Molecular Orbital theory, including the definition of the CooperativityModel. It is briefly exposed the state of the art and future perspectives of SCO materials andtheir applications.
