Educación Química is a quarterly international journal published by the Facultad de Química at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). This peer-reviewed, electronic, and open-access academic journal aims to bridge the communication gap between students, teachers, and researchers in science education, particularly in chemistry education. It seeks to establish itself as a forum for analysis and guidance that promotes the improvement of teaching and learning processes in chemistry through reflection, didactics, and educational research, while also disseminating new or overlooked topics.

Since its founding in 1989, Educación Química has had a significant impact. In 2019, it celebrated 30 years of activity and is indexed in renowned databases such as Chemical Abstracts Service (since 1993) and Scopus (since 2010). The journal has an editorial committee comprising representatives from three educational institutions and an international advisory committee. In recent years, most of its articles have been authored by researchers from various countries, reflecting its global reach.

Focused on contributing to the social, economic, environmental, and cultural development of the Ibero-American region within a global context, Educación Química publishes original articles in Spanish, Portuguese, and English. Since 2014, the journal has been exclusively electronic, continuing its legacy as a platform for excellence in chemistry education.

The journal was founded in 1989 by Andoni Garritz, who served as its director until 2015. During its first two periods (1989-2015), over 1,500 articles were published. In its third period, Educación Química renewed its editorial structure with a council composed of prominent chemistry educators, many from previous editorial boards, and an International Advisory Board formed by distinguished experts in the field.
