Code of ethics
The Editorial Committee of Educación Química will only submit articles to peer-review that are original, unpublished in any printed or digital format, and not under editorial consideration in any other journals or books. The author must declare on the first page of the article that the work is original and is not being considered elsewhere.
Objectives of the Code of Ethics:
1. To establish the ethical criteria that must be followed by all participants in the editorial process: editorial team, authors, reviewers, and collaborators.
2. To prevent and eliminate practices that may compromise the quality, integrity, or transparency of the editing, reviewing, and publishing process.
Ethical Responsibilities
Editorial Team:
1. Ensure transparency in the peer review process by clearly informing authors about the evaluation criteria.
2. Base publishing decisions solely on the relevance, originality, clarity, and significance of the work for the journal.
3. Ensure the quality of the material published.
4. Correct any significant inaccuracies in published articles promptly and appropriately.
5. Do not tolerate plagiarism or unethical conduct and remove any article that fails to meet these standards.
Authors:
1. Disclose any financial or other conflicts of interest that may influence the results or interpretation of their work.
2. Immediately inform the editor-in-chief of any errors or significant inaccuracies in their published work and cooperate in correcting or retracting the error.
3. Strictly adhere to the editorial guidelines set by the journal.
Reviewers:
1. Inform the editor of any conflicts of interest that may affect their impartiality.
2. Refrain from reviewing manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest.
3. Notify the editor promptly if they are not qualified to review a manuscript or cannot complete the review in the allotted time.
4. Evaluate only the intellectual content of the manuscript, without external influence.
5. Immediately inform the editor of any signs of integrity issues in the article being reviewed.
Transparency
1. Respond promptly to any inquiries from authors, offering clear and timely solutions.
2. Inform authors about the peer review process and justify any changes made to it, if applicable.
3. Keep authors updated on the status of their manuscript in the editorial process and the decisions made during the review.
Confidentiality
1. Treat all information related to manuscripts as strictly confidential.
2. Ensure anonymity in the peer review process: reviewers will not know the identities of authors, and vice versa.
3. Limit access to manuscript information to individuals directly involved in the editorial process (authors, reviewers, and editorial advisors).
4. Prohibit the use of unpublished materials presented in a manuscript for personal research without the explicit written consent of the author.
5. Protect privileged information obtained during peer review, ensuring it is not used for personal gain.
6. Make fair and impartial editorial decisions, ensuring an ethical and appropriate peer review process.
This Code reinforces Educación Química’s commitment to integrity, scientific quality, and transparency in the editorial field.
