Abstract

Density is an initial and basic concept in experimental sciences. In this article, the results obtained from interviews with the thinking aloud protocol about the understanding of the concept of density are analyzed and discussed. 12 students from a first-year university chemistry course were interviewed and asked to explain the answers chosen when solving the Reasoning with Density questionnaire. This questionnaire investigates the logical-mathematical relationships between the variables m, V and d. The results classified into categories and the discussion of their implications are presented.
