No. 97 (2025): Global citizenship education: interpretations, experiences and reflections from the Global South
This issue represents a collective academic effort aimed at questioning the approach proposed by UNESCO from a decolonial perspective (Quijano, 2019). Our approach seeks to provide critical content to a notion that otherwise runs the risk of becoming an empty signifier (Peraza, 2016).
This thematic publication of Acta Sociológica is promoted by the academic group for the analysis of Educational Policy at the Center for Sociological Studies of the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, in collaboration with the Autonomous University of Nayarit, the University of Guadalajara, the Autonomous University of Querétaro, the University of the Andes, Colombia, and the University of Canberra, Australia. Autonomous University of Nayarit, the University of Guadalajara, the Autonomous University of Querétaro, the University of the Andes, Colombia, and the University of Canberra, Australia. Its objective is to deepen understanding of ECM through the analysis of experiences in different contexts from diverse perspectives, incorporating interpretations and reflections on a contested notion (Peraza and Aguilar-Forero, 2025).
