Abstract

The aim of this article is to discuss the methodology for the teaching of chemistry and the operation of the laboratory of the German scholar Justus von Liebig in the 19th century. Experimentation –  present in various moments of his works –  is the main characteristic of his method of teaching. Since the form of admission of the candidates in his laboratory, it can be noted that the investigative profile was on which Liebig devised the chemical profile that he wanted to prepare. For this, we seek in Gießen and virtual libraries original documents, such as letters exchanged by the scholar himself with his colleagues, as well as the personal accounts of his former students, in which they discussed his personality and his way of teaching.
