This paper contains the results of the exploration on the differential role of a group of men and women who are in charge of caring and supporting patients with chronic pain, tasks that the women carry out mainly, since the men’s role consists basically on providing economical resources and/or care of male patients. Thus, the problems of patients’ care, the construction of sense and identity from this gender-specific constructed role, as well as the consequences of this task in daily life, labor and health of the family members who perform as caretakers, are exposed within.
