Abstract

The patterns of sexual differentiation in a poblational dimention, can be modified by means of different sociocultural and ecological factors. The purpose of this work is to study the growth of an infant population, the dimorphic characteristics and the relation between them. A sample of 215 children, age 1 to 24 months, living in La Plata’s outskirts was taken. Weight/age, height/age, and head circumference was considered. In the analysis of the results: 1. Test Kolmogorov-Smirnov, 2. Mean, standard deviation and Z score, 3. Levene test, 4. Multifactorial Analisys of Variance and tests of multiple ranks comparisons, were applied. Results show that the children evaluated were statistically different than standard (NCHS). Z score was weight/age: -1.95 for males, and -1.28 for females, heigth/age: -2.06 for males, and -1.82 for females, and head circumference: -1.65 for males and -1.28 for females. In general, sexual diferentation was diminished. Although both sexes were injured, women showed a little more resistance. The growth and dimorphic alteration reflects the enviromental stress where these people live.
