Abstract

This study compares the results obtained during detailed “microexcavations” of six burials contained in mobile funerary vehicles (pots, urns, funerary boxes) from the Yucatec peninsula. The original conditions of placement were determined along with the taphonomic agents that affected each context. A comparison between the assemblages evidences differences in preservation according to chronology, substrate and taphonomic phenomena and underlines the benefits that microexcavations have for the reconstruction of ancient funerary practices.
