Abstract

I present a personal point of view about the theoretical and methodological contribution of physical anthropology to human ecology, emphasizing the role of international programs such as the International Biological Program and the Man and the Biosphere Program. The experience of the Department of Human Ecology of CINVESTAV-Merida, in Yucatan, Mexico, is analyzed underlying the role of physical anthropologists in opening and developing the Department, which has the only postgraduate program in human ecology in Mexico.
