Narratives of the Tropical Environment and the Consolidation of Certain Disciplinary Discourses in Habitar Magazine, (Costa Rica, 1990-2012)
Main Article Content
Abstract
The opening of the first School of Architecture and the foundation of the Architects
Association (CA) allowed for the beginning of a discussion about the role of architects in the
country (1970-73). This paper explores the agency that the official journal of the CA had in
exposing topics related to the tropical environment: identity, regionalism, and modernity, from
1990. We suggest that the editorial curation of those topics relates to an ongoing aspiration
to consolidate a disciplinary field within the Costa Rican society.
