Abstract

The landscape of Rio Nuevo is revealed as an unfinished work, a lost natural world and a space of promise. To understand the meanings of this border enclave, the study of urban anthropology is key. Notions of power and counterhegemony are essential, and so this article begins with a theoretical discussion of these concepts. It exposes the tensions between the government and certain population groups; the collision of these forces is the raw material for the construction of this uncertain environment.
