Alexanderplatz: Architecture as a Tool of Social Change

Abstract
The 1928 competition to rebuild Berlin's Alexanderplatz exemplifies the moment in which architecture stopped being the tool of authoritarian power and opened itself up to avant garde experimentation, criticism and provocation. This article shows the plurality of the projects and discussions that arose from the architectural competitions of 1920s Berlin, which have had a major impact on contemporary urban strategies.
