The City and Gender: The Urban Production of Heterosexual Space
Main Article Content
Abstract
Given the recent acceptance of gay marriage by Mexico’s Supreme Court and its legalization in the U.S., the naturalized heterosexuality of urban space has become evident: straight couples can use public space freely while it remains limited to gay couples. This essay analyzes the spatial production of gender and its urban materialization through the city of Monterrey as a case study.
