Yuxtaposición de frases nominales en chuj

Abstract

As established by the assumptions of a grammatical cognoscitive theory, as developed by Langacker, with special regard to valence relationships and nominal constructions, the interest of this study lies in analyzing the juxtaposition of nominal phrases in “Chuj” in order to establish the kind of relationship they codify, namely composition, and the complementing of, or the modification of, said relationship. The type of relationship established depends not only on the degree of integration amongst the components of the nominal phrase, but also on its degree of specificity, as well as on the morphologic markings they show, taken as formal evidence. The type of phrases that I will analyze in this text have to do with relationships dealing with possesions, nominal clasification, parts-to-whole, and next-of-kin terminology.
