Altura de cresta alveolar en pacientes pediátricos con insuficiencia renal crónica.

Abstract
Alveolar ridge decrease has been reported as one of the dental complications associated with Chronic Renal Failure (CRF), where the interproximal alveolar bone present changes that affect the hard plate, the alveolar ridge radio-density, the size and the shape of the marrow gaps. The aim of this study was to identify the alveolar ridge resorption prevalence in chronic renal failure pediatric patients and to observe if there are differences between right and left side. Patients between 6 and 15 years with an RCF diagnosis (Pediatric Hospital of Mexico “Federico Gómez”) were included. The alveolar ridge height was assessed using the parallelism radiographic technique (Shein rule) at the maxillary molars (36, 46). Alveolar ridge left and right height values were obtained and compared with the patient gender. Mean and standard deviation values were obtained. Statistical comparisons were carried out using a t-test (p < 0.05). Results: Based on the results obtained, it was observed that in the right inferior molars the vertical alveolar ridge loss average was 1.31 mm (± 0.133); while in the left inferior molars the loss average was 1.29 mm (± 0.142). We can conclude that in patients with Chronic Renal Failure there is an alveolar ridge decrease in inferior molars, so it is important to assess them and take preventive measures to avoid a higher alveolar ridge loss.
