Abstract

The elasticity in the elastomeric chains suffers a gradual deterioration due to the constant tensional force they are submitted to. This happens because the molecular structure is ruptured by the action of ambiental factors. Objective: To analyze the deterioration in the elastomeric chains, caused by constant stretching in three different brands at different periods of time. Method: Ten samples, with five links, of each brand were set (GAC, TP and 3M UNITEK), and submitted to tension forces, measuring the initial force, at 30 minutes, 24 hours and 4 weeks. The extension values were measured at 30 minutes, 24 hours and 4 weeks. The data was analyzed using a Friedman test to determine the statistical differences between the three brands. Results: The brand with the most uniform behavior was GAC. TP has high force values, but low in stretch values, while 3M has low force values, and high stretch values.
