Use of QR Code in Ocular Prosthesis: A Case Report
Main Article Content
Abstract
Introduction: For identification purposes, there are two methods to mark ocular prostheses made with poly (methyl methacrylate): the surface method and the inclusion technique. In the surface method, data is embossed onto the finished prosthesis, and in the inclusion technique, an information label is encapsulated with acrylic resin. Nowadays, a QR code allows us to store and access information conveniently and quickly. This code is already used in dentistry to identify oral prostheses. Objective: To present for the first time the use of a QR code in an ocular prosthesis. Case presentation: A 34-year-old female patient suffered left ocular loss due to trauma at the age of one and a half years. The ocular prosthesis was fabricated, and the QR code was designed and placed on the prosthesis using the inclusion technique. The patient reports acceptance of the prosthesis and satisfaction because the qr code will allow her to follow her treatment more easily. Conclusions: The use of QR codes on ocular prostheses is an innovative, effective, accessible, and cost-effective way to track both the prosthesis and the patient wearing it.
