Piercing en cavidad oral: La moda que arriesga la salud

Abstract

Tongue and peribuccal perforations have become a frequent way of expression, as well as their consequences. The aim of this study was to evaluate some factors as: Sex of the individuals with perforations in oral cavity soft tissues, injuries and complications due to piercings, permanence piercing period in the mouth, amount of piercings per individual, as well as the treatment required depending on the injury. This random and open study was developed by applying a questionnaire and a buccal exploration in 100 individuals with oral cavity perforations. Sixty two percent of the individuals were male and 38% were female, which means that male have a higher preferance for this fashion. The most frequent
complication found was the difficulty to chew (58 cases). We have found carriers with more than one lesion; however 17% of the individuals did not show any lesions. It was concluded that oral cavities perforations are a risk factor to the piercing carriers buccal health.
