Abstract

Odontogenic myxoma is a low prevalence, benign neoplasia occurring in the maxillae normally associated with teeth which have not come through or which were never present. The objective of this study was to determine the presence of antibodies, vitronectin, fibronectin and keratin in the extra cellular matrix of odontogenic myxoma and dental follicles. The files of the experimental Pathology Laboratory of the postgraduate and Research Division of the School of Dentistry at UNAM, over a period of 14 years, were studied, and 20 specimens of odontogenic myxoma and 2 of human dental follicles, as control, were found for processing using histomorphological analysis. Immunolocation revealed intense presence of fibronectin and vitronectin associated with the stroma of the tumour and cellular structures. It should be noted that a high percentage of the lesions studied showed keratin.
