Abstract

One of the main factors related with the sealing of perforations in furcation is the deficient retention of the sealing materials. Nowadays a mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) base cement is used for this purpose. The intention of this study was to compare the capacity of retention of MTA cement in perforations in furcation with and without humidity presence. Thirty human extracted molars were used, and divided into two groups. A perforation in furcation was done to them and was sealed with MTA cement. After 72 hours of setting at 37°C, with and without humidity, push out tests were done with Instron. The results show there was no significant difference when the MTA cement sets, with or without humidity presence within 72 hours (p = 0.112).
