Influencia de las osteotomías tipo Le Fort I sobre los cambios funcionales y estructurales del seno maxilar
Main Article Content
Abstract
Many papers have been published about the benefits of the orthognathic surgery in relation to esthetics and the functions of the jaws. Most articles invite us to review a series of surgical techniques which purpose are to take care of the bone and neurovascular structures at the surgical site, having previously done an adequate diagnosis and treatment plan. Changes in volume and air flow resistance of the nasal cavity have been mentioned after intrusion of Le Fort I osteotomies. In relation to the maxillary sinus, very little has been investigated about the changes that could be produced if the Schneider membrane was injured, during this procedure, producing a clot inside the maxillary sinus producing changes in the anatomy as well as an inadequate function of the humidification and warming of the inhaled air. This paper presents the functional and structural changes that have been produced in the maxillary sinus and in the nasal cavity after the Le Fort I osteotomies in five patients that required orthognathic surgery with a comparative analysis of preoperative and postoperative CT scans, histological, nasoendoscopies and clinical subjective studies. The results of this paper showed very low incidence of naso-antral problems in the group of patients studied after Le Fort I osteotomies.
