Abstract

Hybrid orthopedics consists of using principles and techniques from both functional and mechanical orthopedics. In this way, advantages could be taken and also disadvantages could be minimized of both techniques. This allows carrying out early treatments and thus having a better prognosis in the management of mesiocclusions and distocclusions, and to have much more stable results in long-term. Appliances are fixed, using class II or III leagues depending on the case, with heavy forces of 500 g. They are used in conjunction with neuro-occlusal rehabilitation techniques; selective occlusal adjustment of the deciduous teeth and flat direct or indirect occlusal planes; as well as the principles of functional orthopedics; neural stimulation, therapeutic postural changing, functional orientation, and physical therapy.
