The new Latin American social thought

Abstract

According to the author, a theoretical debate is crucial to overcome descriptive studies that solely allude to "what is not or cannot be Latin America". In this perspective, the author proposes axes for discussion that, without losing sight of the concrete reality that faces the region, takes issue with the current problems the latter faces. In his analysis, Oliver examines these problems using a theoretical approach, which is indispensable to construct real alternatives. The challenge for latinamericanists is thus to reiterate and to push forward the accumulated progress made in critical Latin American theory.
