The Role of Communication Business Services in Latin America's Global Cities

Abstract

From a Latin American perspective, we analyze the impact of communication business services in Latin America's global cities, how they link up to the global networks in the world largest cities, and how they turn into strategic strong holds for transnational global networks of production. The communication business services, such as those that provide advertising agencies, public relations, marketing,public opinion surveys, among others, influence at the cultural and social levels. They create symbolic media agendas, which are incorporated into the global Latin American cities. In turn, they are responsible for providing economic, cultural and social standards to the rest of the cities in the region.
