Plataformas sob escrutínio: uma exploração da cobertura mediática em torno do Facebook Files/Papers

Resumo
Nos últimos anos, as plataformas de mídia social têm sido objeto de intensas controvérsias relacionadas a seus algoritmos, dados e designs. No entanto, a forma como essas controvérsias conectam as plataformas a danos sociais e redistribuem efetivamente as responsabilidades ainda é pouco estudada. A partir de uma perspectiva interdisciplinar entre Sociologia Digital, Estudos de Mídia e Estudos de Ciência e Tecnologia, este artigo analisa a cobertura da mídia dos Arquivos/Papers do Facebook para identificar quais atores e questões ganharam maior visibilidade para fazer e desfazer a conexão entre as plataformas Meta e vários danos sociais. Combinando uma análise computacional da cobertura jornalística com uma abordagem etnográfica dos atores envolvidos na controvérsia, o artigo identifica uma predominância da figura do denunciante, uma ênfase nos efeitos negativos do Instagram sobre a saúde mental dos adolescentes e a criação de um “causalismo estratégico” na forma como os vazamentos foram enquadrados para pressionar por maiores críticas e regulamentações das plataformas. As descobertas têm implicações importantes para a crescente demanda por maior transparência e responsabilidade das plataformas.
