In the Search of Subjective Well-Being. The Technologies of the Self in Yoga Practice at the Mukti Yoga Center, in Merida Yucatan
Main Article Content
Abstract
Yogais a dynamic, creative, mind-body practice that includes a mix of different lineages, schools and traditions. This practice first arrived in the West with the movement of New Age spirituality and it accompanied an industry created for the pursuit of subjective well-being. Based on practices of meditation, breathing and the use of postures, this system uses special techniques to promote self-knowledge and seek self-awareness in the yogi. The intention of this work is to describe some of the technologies of the “self” used and experienced from not only bodily movement but also from traveling down different spiritual paths. This blend of practices allows new ways of living yoga in the state of Yucatan, especially at the Mukti YogaCenter in Merida, Mexico, in addition to other alternatives for experiencing spirituality in Mexico.
