During the seventeenth century New Spain, the Holy Office of the Inquisition began a strong persecution against the Portuguese community accusing them of conspiring against the spanish crown. Consequently many members of this sector faced inquisitorial processes including Leonor Martínez, daughter of one of the most powerful traders of the Mexico city
