Self-Efficacy, Health Perception and Loneliness on the Quality of Life in Older Adults
Main Article Content
Abstract
The increase in life expectancy and the decline in the fertility rate have caused the population of adults over 60 years of age to increase steadily around the world. In this sense, the objective of this research was to test if there are differences between the levels of self-efficacy to perform daily activities, health perception, and loneliness feelings, about the quality of life and its dimensions: satisfaction in activities, autonomy experience, sensory skills, intimacy experience, social participation and fear of death, in older adults in the State of Mexico. The results reflect that the quality of life scores and their “social participation” dimension are different depending on the level of self-efficacy perception for social activities. Likewise, the quality of life scores, for all their dimensions, were different from health perception and loneliness feelings. Identifying how the quality of life changes according to the level of self-efficacy, health perception and loneliness, contributes to the generation of psychological interventions that promote a better quality of life for this population.
