Women’s Motivation in their choice for the Engineering and Technology field

Abstract
In recent times, women have ventured into the field of engineering, one of the most booming career internationally. Nevertheless, the enrollment of students in Mexico has grown slowly: only about 30% of the total population of students enrolled in a program related to engineering are women. To carry out this research a survey was applied to registered women students to the career of Aerospace Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at the semester 2014-1. In order to present the results, research was done on the reasons for the choice of this discipline of study and model the future performance of female students of engineering degrees in the municipality of Mexicali. The findings show that there is missing a female role model for students, so it is proposed the inclusion of a model Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics STEM to increase preference and enrollment of women at the Faculty of Engineering.
