Alternative source of renewable energy: Organic solar cells
Main Article Content
Abstract
Solar cells as an alternative and renewable energy source based on inorganic materials have shown an impressive development, however, the high cost of production reduces their widespread applications. On the other hand, the use of organic materials in solar cells is becoming a new alternative considered by several research groups as a potentially useful technology for the near future. Increase of conversion of the solar energy into electricity, and the enhancing of the lifetime are some of the factors that drive a fast and increased development of the organic solar cells. To overcome these factors, research groups do their work within a multidisciplinary frame obtaining new organic materials and new cells devices structures. In this article it is shown a general overview of this research field pointing out the contributions made by the Group of Optical Properties of Materials (GPOM) of the Optical Research Center (CIO).
