Effect of oatmeal smoothie with apple on dyslipidemias and overweight-obesity

Abstract

During the last years an increase has been observed in the prevalencia of diseases because of the sedentarism and consumption of a rich diet in saturated fats. In agreement with the results of the ENSANUT 2006, one of every three tennagers men or women has overweight or obesity, possibly because of a bad supply that is characterized for being rich in fats and in carbohydrates. Objetive: To demonstrate that the daily ingestion in fasting for one month of mixture apple - oats in water, diminishes the abdominal perimeter, index of body mass, level of plasmatic cholesterol and trigliceride. Methodology: Cuasi experimentally design was applied with pretest - postest and a group of control. The experimental group was constituted by 5 subjects of masculine sex and with ages between 20 and 30 years old. They were presenting all of them dislipidemia, overweight or obesity of agreement to his IMC and classification dictated by the WHO, inaddition it was known that they present high levels of plasmatic triglicéridos and cholesterol. The treatment consisted of the fact that the subjects of the experimental group took every day for 30 days mixture prepared with two soup spoonfuls of oats and an apple (yellow) Golden delicius without heart or seeds but with the rind it integrates in 250ml of drinkable water. A comparison of averages was realized for every variable considering pretest against postest. For it it was in use “t” of Student for samples paired. The level of significancia was considered p value ≤ 0.05. Results: The experimental subjects presented a plasmatic average cholesterol of 193.2 ± 14.9 mg/dl before implementing the treatment and at the end of the study his average level of cholesterol diminished to 177 ± 29.6 mg/dl (p = 0.173). Our hypothesis of investigation was demonstrated for the level of triglicéridos, since these diminished of 307.8 ± 84.5 mg/dl to 193.6 ± 60.6 mg/dl at the end of the treatment (p = 0.029).Conclusions: It seems to be clear that mixture oats - apple in water, are effective to attack the dislipidemias, nevertheless, the experimental evidences showed in this work and in others already be with human beings or with animals to make ourselves conclude that the key to achieve abdominal perimeter and IMC to diminish the cholesterol, triglicéridos, takes root in the duration of the treatment.
