Abstract

Ethnic groups have responded differently to imposed national linguistic and cultural patterns. In this work, the case of Nahua peoples of the Huasteca is discussed. The appereance of linguistic resistance is understood as the development of bilingual sociocommunicative systems, which have permitted the survival of the vernacular language and have given it a political character.
