Discriminant functions to determine sex by humerus in cuban europoids

Abstract
This work is based on the study of the behavior of the sexual dimorphism in the long bones of the human superior extremity. The sample selected for this study consists of 160 humeruses (82 males and 78 females), belonging to Cuban hispanic adult europoids, deceased in the second half of the 20th century. 12 measurements were made and with these variables it was carried out the t test throwing up very significant differences (p < .01) for all the analyzed variables. A total of 27 discriminating equations that contributed an effectiveness between 89.1 and 99.3 % of correct were elaborated, classification applicable, in entire bones such as in fragmented; the equations use the smallest number of possible variables. It is concluded that the proposed equations can be useful in the determination of the sex, due to the high efficiency they brought.
