Abstract

The diverse definitions given scaphocephaly are quoted along with a critical examination of the varied causes that supposedly motivate this cranial anomaly. Four scaphocephalic skulls pertaining to male Mexican adult, two prehispanic and two contemporary, are described and 34 measurements, 22 indices and cranial capacity for each given. Finally, comparisons are made with two North American scaphocephalic skulls studied by Eiseley and Asling (1944) and Hohenthal and Brooks (1960) with some slight rectifications of both monographs.
