Abstract

Among the popular beliefs expressed by indigenous groups of
the mayan conmunity of Maxcanú, Yucatán, there are supposed
fractures in the solar trajectory. These people these say that,
although it is not posible to perceive the disappearance of the
Sun directly from just any spot, it is seen from sacred places. It
is believed that the disappearances of the Sun occur every day,
at certain hours, and also every year or in longer and temporal
cycles. These disappearances affect the order of the things of the
world, bringing prodigious phenonenae of two classes: supernatu¡
al manifestations and inversion of the order of all beings.
