La importancia de la educación informal en Yalcobá

Abstract

The contents of this essay show, in general tems, the importance of informal education (endoculturation-socialization) in a present day Mayan community and its relation to formal education (school), under the auspices of the Mexican govemment, in a rural region with a high index of monolinguism (Mayan) as compared to the nationat languaje (Spanish). This essay covers fundamental aspects of the social organization of the group being studied: familiar, communal, economic, political, and religious relationships.
