Abstract

Somatic-phrsioloqical research was developed in 1954 in a Zapotec-speaking group of miners of Sierra de Juárez, Oaxaca (districts of lxtlán v Villa Alta). The anthropometric obeervations were cornpared to those of other authors who have made studies of Zapotecs in other regions of Oaxaca. Difference in the cephalic index was found. Their physiological characteristics were norrnal with the exception of an acceleration of breath which was greater than normal, Probably due to the type of activity they perform. Adults 18 to 40 years old and adults 40 to 60, showed a significant
statistic difference in some physiological characteristics like time of
apnea and vital capac¡ty, with greater averages in young adults.
