Abstract

Civilization and barbarism synthesize the vision of the world of capitalist modernity. Through them they represent, along with others, the bivalent and manichean world which allowed meaning to evolution and progress. This article is a critical reflection of their origin, their use and meaning from the perspective of the theories of complexity. Their present impracticability sets out, in a world tensed by the uncertainty and the chance, where the arms of time no longer are conceived by teleologic and deterministic form.
