Abstract

The comparison among some physical characters of two indigenous populations from the state of Oaxaca: the zapotecs inhabitants
of the Sierra de Juárez a¡d the chinantecs from the Tuxtepéc district, gave the following result: the individuals of these groups  are different due to toracic characteristics. Both groups are of small height, but heavier and with wider torax the zapotecs. It is considered that these differences are due in part to the different habitat (mountain in the zapoteco ¡egion, plain in the chinanteco); perhaps, their different labor activity is more important: the zapoteco mining works of the natividad mine and the chinanteco
agricultural workers.
