Abstract
The outstanding myths concerning the origin of the sun and the
moon, in versions according to both historical as well as ethnographic sources, are herein analyzed and compared, indicating the existence of an ancient Mesoamerican common source, which enables the reader to recognize -thanks to the procedure followed in this essay- the complete version of a central myth in the cosmic vision of Mesoamerican cultures.
