Abstract

The article analyze the evolution of inequality and poverty from a historical perspective, including structural reforms in Nicaragua of a neoliberal nature during the 1990s. It also examines the reduction of poverty in Nicaragua since 1991 through World Bank indicators; Methods of measuring inequality and poverty are used, such as the Gini coefficient, GDP per capita and the incidence rate of poverty, as well as the poverty gap. It includes the results of a quantitative assessment of poverty and inequality; it concludes with a reduction in poverty, a continuous increase in real GDP and a stable trend in the unemployment rate, as well as a moderate increase in inequality
