The problems of the metric of conventional economics
Main Article Content
Abstract
Economic measurement has come to represent a critical mistake that obscures our understanding of planetary crisis. A different economy, articulated with the idea of post- normal science, requires a different metric than monetary reductionism ; that is, one that considers uncertainty and social participation in complex problems, not as a denial of logical positivism (which exalts scientific knowledge and degrades other forms of knowledge) but rather as a need to expand its dimensions in response the 'post normality ' of reality.
Measurement is not a trivial, but rather an essential problem as it determines the way we understand the world On a macro level, this article questions the traditional metrics in the economy of 'development' and defends the need for a new multidimensional metric to understand and act on complex problems.
