Abstract

The current global crisis and the responses that advanced countries have offered, have created unexpected “collateral damage” for the world of those who study economics: the revival of classic authors that appeared to be destined for irrelevance. Such have been the prominent cases of the Karl Marx’s theories regarding the crisis, John Maynard Keynes’s counter cyclical policies, and Rudolf Hilferding’s finance capital. This article attempts to analyze and reassess the contributions of Hilferding at the 100 year mark of his transcendental work. As an homage to the Hilferding’s wok, this article proposes the need to redefine the modern power of finance capitalism as a theoretical and methodological challenge.
