Coping strategies in women with marital violence
Main Article Content
Abstract
Research on violence against women has documented that their main reaction is that of an attitude of submission, helplessness and passivity. However, it is crucial to analyze the confrontation type that lies behind these reactions. In the present study the differences between the types of confrontation and appreciation that women have of themselves and their relationship to different types of violence, as well as the study variables correlations are analyzed. 450 women participated in the study and were divided into three levels of violence (low, moderate, high). The results showed that women in order to justify their partner violent behavior, this justification becomes a way to address the problem, contributing to the perpetuation of violence cycle. It was concluded that, given the increasing violence, women escape, avoid or minimize the problem, not to see its importance.
