Alcohol Intake in Teenagers of a Junior High school in Nezahualcoyotl City, its Frequency and Social Profile, 2015

Abstract

Alcoholic intake in adolescence causes a predisposition to serious health risk and to use and abuse of other toxic substances.
The aim of this study was to identify alcohol consumption in teenagers, the frequency besides the demographic and social variables.
An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional survey of junior high school students in Nezahualcoyotl city was carried out.
496 students were surveyed, 244 (49%) consumed alcohol at least once in their lives, the average age of initiation was 13 years, and 56 (11%) keep consuming it.   
Students start drinking at an early age in order to socialize with their parents and friends; those who keep drinking consume beer at parties and with friends, for fun and joy. According to AUDIT only one student developed chronic heavy drinking.
