Prevalence of dental caries in children from Rufino Tamayo elementary school in Iztapalapa borough in 2013-2014 term

Abstract
Caries is a multifactorial disease, because it is related to environmental and biological factors as well as the lifestyle of the individual. It is a localized disease affecting the tooth organ and it is described as the softening of the hard tissues of the tooth. Its early detection and preventive treatment are encouraged. Objective: To Identify the prevalence of dental caries by sex in elementary school Rufino Tamayo. Material and methods: An observational, prolective, transversal and descriptive study was undertaken on 195 students. The data collection was performed using epidemiological records for DMFT-dmft. Results: The overall prevalence of caries was 74.87 %; out of which 72.92 % was for females and 76.77 % for males; 68.21 % affected primary teeth and 50.77 % involved permanent teeth. The arithmetic mean of caries experience was 2 temporary and 1 permanent dental organs.
