Abstract

This article seeks to analyse Jurgen Habermas’ concept of communicative action and its links to a number of theoretical issues that connect it, in particular, to Max Weber. In this context, the idea of an argumentative rationality seems to be an intermediate concept between instrumental reason and normative ethics, in which (Universal) pragmatics becomes a means of guiding discourse through clarifying the ideal conditions for a social dialogue as political praxis, in order to overcome the constraints between life-world and system.

Author Biography

Felipe López Veneroni, Facultad de Ciencias Políticas y Sociales, UNAM

Master in Social and Political Theory at the University of Cambridge and is currently a PhD candidate at the FCPyS. Full professor assigned to the Center for Studies in Communication Sciences. His research interests include epistemology of the social sciences, forms and symbolic processes, speech, social interaction, citizenship and political culture. He is author of the books The Science of Communication. Scope and method of study (Trillas, 1997) and Popular Traditions in Mexico (from party to party) (Santillana, 2003); and coordinator of intertextos: the significance of politics in journalistic discourse in Mexico (UNAM, 2009) and the concept of political culture and the media in Mexico (UNAM, 2010). He has contributed articles to several academic journals and at conferences and forums. His professional experience has held positions in areas of communication in the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal District, Federal Consumer at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Radio University, Department of Culture of the Ministry of Education, Directorate General of Radio Television and Film as well as several units of the Universidad Nacional Autonóma de México.
