Abstract

The central idea discussed in this article raises the decline of North Adantic hegemony in international economic relations. The current trends toward globalization and regionalism are putting aside the importance of the North Atlantic economies vis a vis the emergence of new economic organization such as the European Union (EU), the South American Common Market (MERCOSUR), the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). In the near future trade and financial flows will have an intra-regional character at the expense of the relations with the rest of the world.
