Abstract

This article is about Thomas Alva Edison's motion picture production and in particular its effects in México. This year we celebrate the first 100 years of cinema but tile old question regarding the origin of this entertainment and specifically its entrance and distribution in our country, remains to be unraveled. This article is a fresh attempt to address such matters. It includes a complete up-dated catalogue of available filmographic records of all Edison Company productions for the kinetoscope, vitascope and the stereopticon —devices made by this company exploited in the first movie theaters in México— with presumed "Mexican" themes, or of films shot by Edison agents in México between 1897 and the first years of this century. Of course, all data included in the article is contextualized.
